This was my first time picking berries, ever! My mom had taken the girls over the years, but I have never had the opportunity to go. What a fun experience. We stopped at two farms. At the first farm, we picked rasberries. There were soooo many of them. There were also alot of bees & to my surprise, the girls were not affected by there presence, even though the bees were right next to their faces. All Savanah needed was an empty basket & rasberries on the vine because she was a picking machine. Kayla & Alani were a little timid at first, but once they got going they couldn't stop. Kayla would say, "I can't handle it! I have to pick more & more berries. I can't stop!" It was so true, even I found myself doing it. Our baskets were so full, but as we were leaving, we just couldn't resist picking more. At the next farm we picked apples & strawberries. The fun part of the apples was the hay ride. We really couldn't pick that many apples - it was kind of pricey. I, of course, loved picking the strawberries. It was toward the end of the season, but there were plenty of them to pick. Alani loved picking the strawberries, she even picked 2 at the same time. My mom washed some & we ate & ate. There also were these huge Sunflowers in a garden next to the strawberries, so the scrapbooker in me couldn't resist taking pics. Later that night, my mom & I wanted to bake some pies. With so much fresh fruit, how could we not. The thing is, we've never made pies before. (Except for my moms delicious cheesecakes). After a few mistakes, we made a rasberry pie & a strawberry/rasberry pie. I even made the crust from scratch. It was pretty easy. These pies were soooooo delicious. I couldn't believe how easy & good they were. About a week later, I made a homemade apple pie all by myself. Boy was that good too! My favorite was of course the strawberry, but the apple was a close 2nd.
